Lenten Reflection 2025: Fourth Sunday - Finding Our Way Back Again

I have written a weekly series of reflections and prayers for the season of Lent. Scroll down to find this week’s offering!

Title of the resource
This is the cover image of the resource "Hope for Children Through Climate Justice: Legal Tools to Hold Financiers Accountable" which “introduces communities to climate litigation, a rapidly growing and impactful way of addressing the climate crisis and protect the rights of young people and future generations.” The cover image is designed by Juliana Schuch based on a cartoon by Joel Pett. © 2025 World Council of Churches.

Good news, friends! The World Council of Churches has published the training booklet I told you about a few weeks ago. Titled “Hope for Children through Climate Justice: Legal Tools to Hold Financiers Accountable,” it has already reached international media attention. For a brief overview of the handbook, go here.

I encourage you to either purchase a print copy through the WCC or download the PDF here and share it with your community of faith. If you wonder what you could do to make a difference, this resource puts concrete ideas in your hands!

Discipleship in Action: One Person’s Testimony

Dr. Susan Smith sits with me on the WCC’s Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development (CCJSD). After working closely with her in Panama last month, I also feel privileged to call her a friend. Susan is one of the contributors to the Hope for Children through Climate Justice handbook. Earlier this month, the WCC published an interview regarding her work with the CCJSD and her Christian faith. In knowing her and reading her story, I hear the testimony of Susan living out her faith in action; her work for the CCJSD, and climate justice more broadly, forms a core part of her discipleship. I invite you to read the interview:

LENTEN REFLECTION 2025:

Singing Resurrection When the Earth is Being Crucified

This is a series of weekly reflections as we move through the season of Lent and prepare for Easter. The name of this series, “Singing Resurrection When the Earth is Being Crucified,” is based on a haunting question by Anglican priest Stephen Blackmer: “What does resurrection look like when it is the Earth that is being crucified?”

Lent is a time of reflection and repentance, and so this year I invite us to a time to reflect and repent concerning the reality of the climate and ecological crisis. Each Friday I will offer a brief scriptural reflection, questions for you to consider, and a short prayer. I pray that these are meaningful for you and deepen your Lenten journey this year.

This Lenten series is available to paid subscribers of Faith. Climate Crisis. Action. Upgrade today to receive the full devotional offering (as well as access to the entire archive of this newsletter). Each week includes a reflection on the Gospel reading for that week, questions for you to ponder, and a prayer written by me that you are invited to pray at any time during the season of Lent. I hope these resources are meaningful to you on your journey to the cross and beyond.

Here is last week’s reflection:
