Friday Nudge: Put the Ottawa-Gatineau Climate March on the Calendar

Hi friends, it’s been a while since I’ve reminded you with a “nudge” about something, but this is an important one. So many people I speak to, at church and elsewhere, wonder about what they can do to take climate action. Most think about the lifestyle changes they can make; while those are good for helping us live in line with our values, unless we speak up to government and industry and demand law and policy changes, we will not be able to mitigate global warming or effectively adapt to the climate changes that are worsening.

Joining the Ottawa-Gatineau Climate March on Saturday, September 20, is a great way to make your voice heard! It’s also a joyful, empowering event that is great for ALL ages - families with young kids, and especially older people, like I see in the church pews! If you can come out, please do. If you can’t, then please commit to supporting the march with money, if you have it, and with prayer, either way. If you have any questions, please let me know. I’ll either answer them or find out the answer for you.

This is What Climate Anxiety Looks Like

I was beginning to get freaked out. My husband Mark had been away on a canoe camping trip with his friend Greg since Monday. They put their canoe in at Ville Marie, Quebec, a couple of hours north of Mattawa, Ontario. On most days, they had cell reception, and so with my phone, I could track their progress down Lake Temiskaming into the Ottawa River, south toward Mattawa, where their car was parked. But by Sunday, I realized they no longer had cell reception. On Sunday evening, I learned about a massive storm that had devastated the area around Mattawa. I heard the word “tornado,” and every hair on my body stood on end.

I couldn’t reach the men.
