If you’re of a certain age like me, you remember hearing the phrase, “We interrupt this regularly scheduled programming” on the radio or TV. Or perhaps it was, “We interrupt this broadcast,” which means the same thing. It means that something has happened in the world, near or far, which requires a break in routine to be announced.

As I lay down for a Covid-induced rest this morning, that phrase began running through my head. Unbidden and despite the self-mandated rest, I began to think of all the ways that events have been interrupting the ‘regularly scheduled programming’ of the status quo, of the ways that things are or seem to have always been, whether that is true or not. Eventually, I fell asleep, but when I woke, I knew I wanted to share them with you. The list below is in the order they occur to me.
